Steps chair

Steps is a chair by Monica Graffeo, from 2008, made of only two materials: industrial felt for the seat and back, and an aluminum frame underneath. The felt is cut into strips arranged so that the seat and backrest hold their shape while staying soft to sit on.

Both felt and aluminum can be fully recycled, the chair ships in compact packaging, and Lago puts the reduction in environmental impact at 50% compared with conventional solutions. The felt has one listed finish, and the frame is graphite metal. A stool version with the same strips and frame is made for kitchen islands and peninsulas.
