Vele bed

The Vele bed, designed in 2014 by Andrea Leoni of LAGO STUDIO, combines a light-looking base with a headboard made of three upholstered panels. The panels take a fabric or leather cover and are set slightly out of line, like flats in a stage set, which gives the headboard depth and adds surface space. Shelves are tucked into the headboard, so small things can be found by hand at night.

The mattress lies on a recessed platform carried by clear tempered-glass legs, a light counterpoint to the solid panels. Base and headboard both stand on their own, and the headboard is finished on the back as well, so the bed needs no wall fixing and can be placed away from the wall. There are 16 coverings for the headboard.
