Signum rug

Signum is a wool rug woven on a hand loom, 400 by 300 cm, large enough to sit under a whole sofa group. Its pattern is made of irregular lines and quick, drawn-looking strokes spread across the surface at an even rhythm, closer to a sketch than to a repeat.

The pile is soft with slight tonal shifts, so the marks blend into the ground rather than standing out sharply. For a room where furniture and walls are already busy, it gives texture without a strong color statement. Abstraction, a hand-knotted wool and viscose rug of the same size, offers a more painterly alternative.
