Depth bathroom furniture

Depth is a wall-hung washbasin by Daniele Lago from 2013, cut into a shelf of Wildwood oak 8 cm thick. Instead of a ceramic bowl there is an opening in the wood with a sloping bottom of clear glass, so the water shows through the shelf like a small window and runs off quickly along the incline.

Wildwood is oak from centuries-old trunks with a deeply sculpted grain. A heat treatment makes it waterproof and highly resistant to wear, which is what allows wood to serve as a basin. In the bathroom the shelf reads as a single textured element hanging on the wall, with the glass bottom as its only other material.
