Soft bench

At first glance Soft looks like an ordinary rigid wooden bench. Sit down and the top gives way slightly: Daniele Lago designed it in 2004 with a rigid wooden panel cut into small pieces and bonded to a layer of foam, so the lacquered mosaic shapes itself to the body under pressure.

The finish is lacquer, in a palette of 32 colors, and the padding stays hidden under the mosaic. The bench is easy to move from place to place and works in a home as well as in public spaces. The same softened-wood seat appears in Soft Swing, a swing from the same year.
